Uniting Voices to End Homelessness in Western Australia

The Voices that Matter Most

In the heart of Western Australia, where the vast expanse of land meets the vibrant pulse of its cities, a quiet but profound struggle unfolds. This struggle isn’t fought on battlefields but in the streets, alleys, and temporary shelters that many call home. It is the fight against homelessness, a crisis that does not just deny people a roof over their heads but strips away their dignity, safety, and the right to self-determination.

For those who have lived this experience, who have known the biting cold of a winter night or the uncertainty of where the next meal will come from, this crisis is more than just statistics and headlines. It is a lived reality, a daily battle for survival, and a fight for the basic human right to have a place to call home.

Why Your Voice Matters

For too long, decisions about homelessness have been made without the voices of those who know it best. Policies are shaped, funds are allocated, and programs are designed, often without the input of the very people these actions are supposed to help. This needs to change.

Lived Experience is a powerful tool, one that holds the insights, stories, and wisdom that can drive real, meaningful change. It is the firsthand understanding of the barriers that keep people trapped in homelessness and the solutions that can lead them out. By uniting your voices, you bring authenticity and truth to the forefront of the conversation. You challenge misconceptions, break down stigma, and push for a system that not only hears but truly listens.

The Power of Unity

Imagine the power of thousands of voices, each with their own story, coming together to demand change. It is not just a chorus of sound but a force that can shift the ground beneath decision-makers. When Lived Experience Advocates speak, they speak not only for themselves but for the silent majority, those who are too often overlooked and unheard.

Uniting voices creates a community of strength, support, and solidarity. It empowers individuals, letting them know they are not alone in their struggles or their desire for change. It builds networks of advocates who can stand up for each other, learn from one another, and work together towards a common goal: Ending Homelessness in Western Australia.

Self-Determination: The Right to Shape Your Future

The fight against homelessness is not just about finding shelter; it’s about reclaiming the right to shape your own future. Self-determination is a fundamental human right, the right to make choices about your life, to have control over your own destiny, and to build a future that reflects your hopes and dreams.

For those with lived experience of homelessness, self-determination means being at the table where decisions are made. It means having the power to influence policies that affect your life and the lives of others in similar situations. It means ensuring that solutions are not imposed from above but are crafted from the ground up, with the input and leadership of those who know what it means to live without a home.

A Call to Action

To every person who has lived the reality of homelessness in Western Australia: your voice is powerful, and your experience is invaluable. By joining together, you can transform the fight against homelessness. You can ensure that the solutions are not just well-intentioned but effective, not just temporary fixes but lasting change.

This is more than just a call to action—it is a call for justice, dignity, and the right to be heard. It is a call to unite, to advocate, and to demand a future where everyone has the right to a safe, stable, and secure home. Together, you can make sure that no one is left behind and that every person has the opportunity to shape their own destiny.

The Future Starts Now

The housing and homelessness crisis in Western Australia is not an insurmountable challenge. It is a call to action for those with the power to change it: The Lived Experience Kommuniti. Your stories, your voices, and your unwavering commitment can pave the way for a future where homelessness is not a reality but a memory, a future where every individual has the right and the means to determine their own path. The time to unite and fight for that future is now.

There is no factory in WA churning out homeless people........... People who are homeless come from families, that live in communities...... The very Communities that we live in!

So it makes sense that our Lived Experience Kommuniti is within our wider Kommuniti Circles but designed to empower those who may have had a life-changing event leave them in a state of Illbeing. We offer companionship and support for them to begin their journey back towards Wellbeing and to be able to contribute in any small way to the Communities where they may or may not get the choice to live.
